After generating a huge amount of buzz thanks to his recently unveiled anthem 'Yesterday', which received plaudits from countless outlets upon its release, fast-rising producer and artist Blonds has now returned to unveil his captivating new EP 'Retrospective'.
Throughout the new self-produced, three-track collection, we get a true sense of the vision and adventurous direction he has been embarking on of late. While the opener 'Yesterday' certainly gets our feet moving, the following cuts 'Kate's Moving To Philadelphia' and 'Oh Talulah!' offer up a warm and cozy vibe that reflects the fresh yet nostalgic aesthetic this new EP is all about.
Adding about 'Retrospective', Blonds said, “Retrospective is a collection of three songs that deal with the past. Each song contains musical elements from past decades, hence the "retro" in Retrospective. 'Kate's Moving To Philadelphia' employs sparkly and reverb soaked 80s indie new wave tropes, 'Oh Talulah!' contains 60s pop instrumentation and structure, and 'Yesterday' combines elements of 70s acoustic pop with late 90s acoustic pop to give it a catchy, easy-listening vibe. Additionally, the term "retrospective" usually refers to a look back upon an artist's body of work, and as a painter I've included my paintings in the background of the cover art as well as framed the cover art to appear as a painting hanging on a white gallery wall.”
Blonds has always taken a innovative and experimental approach to his sound, but it feels like 'Retrospective' sees him move that small step closer to his next phase of musical evolution. Combining playful tones with a driven approach to songwriting, he looks set to become one of the most talked about new artists of the moment.
